The Bacdayan Local History Archives at the Lyme Public Library is now an Affiliate Library for FamilySearch. FamilySearch is an international nonprofit organization and website offering genealogical records to help people research their ancestors and family history. As an affiliate library, the Archives can provide access to additional digital records not available to the general public. Currently, there are about 400 million original records available in a digital format to affiliate libraries, including:
- Land and probate records from many towns
- Connecticut State Archives: Indians, 1647-1789
- Connecticut State Archives: Militia records, 1678-1820
- Connecticut State Archives: Revolutionary War, 1763-1820
Using this powerful tool can be a little complicated, although anyone can sign up for a free account and begin their research. If you would like to consult with our wonderful volunteer Archivist, Julie Hughes, please make an appointment to visit with her in the Archives room on Thursdays from 11 am to 3 pm. You can reach Julie here or call (860) 598-9760.
