Lyme Public Hall & Local History Archives Inc honors Archives’ Founder
The Board of the Lyme Public Hall & Local History Archives Inc. is pleased to announce the renaming of the Lyme Local History Archives in honor of its founder and initial archivist, Carolyn Bacdayan.
Carolyn initiated the idea of a local history archives for Lyme in 1995 and became its Archivist when it opened in 1998. After building an extraordinary collection of documents and photographs, she retired in 2020 handing over the reins to Julie Hughes, our (volunteer) Archivist.
To honor Carolyn and her achievements the board of the Lyme Public Hall & Local History Archives gathered at the Archives on November 18 to mark its renaming as the Carolyn Bacdayan Local History Archives. A plaque with the new name inscribed was unveiled.
The Lyme Local History Archives is an entity of the Lyme Public Hall & Local History Archives Inc and is managed by this association. Thanks to the town of Lyme, the Archives is now housed in the Lyme Public Library. Its focus is on documents and photographs which illuminate the history of Lyme, Connecticut and its people.
The Carolyn Bacdayan Local History Archives is open to the public at the Lyme Public Library Tuesdays from 2-5 pm and Thursdays from 11 am-3 pm or by appointment.
