Digging in the Local History Archives

We recently had the opportunity to listen to Lyme resident and [Ret.] Professor of American Studies George Willauer speak about Joseph Caples (1873 to 1954) who lived on Gungy Road in Lyme.  (Videos of this talk is in the Archives Video Gallery.). George researched Joseph in our Local History Archives, a sanctuary for Lyme history housed at the Lyme Public Library.

The Local History Archives is available to you, too.  Wondering about the history of your house or about an early Lyme resident?  Perhaps you’re curious about the early days before Old Lyme broke away, or you’re wondering about life before Lyme was Lyme?  Whether you do your own research or ask for the assistance of our (volunteer) Archivist, Julie Hughes, you can look for answers to your questions.

Drop-in to the Local History Archives Tuesdays from 2:00-5:00 pm or Thursdays from 11:00 am-3:00 pm when Julie is available to assist you.  To guarantee time with Julie, call her to schedule your visit.

The Library is at 482 Hamburg Road in Lyme.  When you arrive, ask for our Local History Archives at the front desk.
