Local History Archives
The Local History Archives collects and preserves historical materials about the town of Lyme, its history, culture, life-ways, institutions, and people. These materials are housed in the Carolyn Bacdayan Local History Archives room at the Lyme Public Library where all materials are safe and protected from extreme temperatures and humidity. We are committed to digital preservation where possible.
The Local History Archives is always adding to our collection. We invite donations of personal and family papers, documents, photographs, and other materials relevant to the history and life-ways of Lyme. With proper archival care and storage, they can be preserved and made accessible to future generations as part of our historical collections.
Study space and copy equipment are available for reading, study, and research. Our volunteer staff will assist with subject searches and document retrieval. Use of the Archives is free, though there may be a small charge for copies and reproductions of materials.
We draw on community participation for help in transcribing archival documents and oral history tapes, indexing, writing descriptions and abstracts of documents, curating small exhibits, etc.
This is a labor of love. If you’re interested in visiting and/or helping in the archives, please contact Julie Hughes, Archivist.
