Archives don’t just store physical documents; they also take responsibility for digital items like this fabulous scan given by the Tiffany family. In this striking image Leon H. Tiffany, Sr. (1903-1982) surveys the iconic outline of Tiffany Farms from his tractor, while holding the microphone of a Vocaline JRC 400 radio transceiver also known as an AM radio telephone or, in modern parlance, a CB radio. That radio came out in 1956, helping to date the photograph (which was actually labelled as being from the 1940s). Leon served his hometown as a selectman, a member of the boards of Finance and Education, and in the Lyme Volunteer Fire Company. Moreover, according to a 1978 newspaper article, he was responsible for turning Tiffany Farms into a successful dairy: “We first made milk on January 1, 1939. We had thirty-five head of cattle, and we had to buy hay that first winter. The second year we had 125 head and we were selling hay.”
