Headstones & Cemeteries
The Cemeteries
There are twenty-six burial grounds in the Town of Lyme. Six of them were designated “ancient burying grounds” with headstones dating from Colonial times.
A few towns that surround Lyme today separated from the original town of Lyme between 1825 and 1855. These include parts of Salem, East Lyme and Old Lyme.
While genealogies and other ancestral records for individuals who were born or died during the 17th to mid-19th centuries are listed as Lyme, the grave sites may be physically located in another one of these other towns.
